Jalon (Xalò)
Dubbed the Costa Blanca's Jewel in the Crown by the British travel press, vineyards, almond groves, orange and lemon groves literally cover the valley floor. Once famed for it's sweet raisins made from muscatel grapes, the area now produces award-winning wines that can be sampled in one of the local bodegas..
The Jalon valley is unique in many ways, with breathtaking views over the stunning Sierra Bernia mountains the town sits in the centre of the valley and is encircled by magnificent mountains and smaller villages such as Parcent and Lliber.
The Jalon valley boasts some of the best scenery in Spain. The valley itself has plains of olive trees, vineyards, almonds and orange groves. In the later part of January and early February the whole Jalon valley is a blanket of pink and white almond blossom with a scent to match the beauty, so if you are a walker this is paradise ranging from gentle strolls to major treks.
The village of Jalon is steeped in tradition with the famous Jalon church complete with blue dome at the heart. Take time to roam around the many small streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants.
With a strong influence of Arabic culture throughout the village such as decorated walls, large wooden doors and stone houses the village packs character.
Shopping & Markets
The famous Rastro of Jalon is held every Saturday next to the river. You will find a wide array of products from antiques to clothing. Every Tuesday there is a local produce market in the main square.
There are plenty of handicraft shops, bodegas (wine cellars) and other local stores such as butchers, baker's and newsagents throughout the village along with a large supermarket.
